What an affiliate link is
When you click certain links to products or services and make a qualifying purchase, the merchant pays this site a small commission. The price you pay is identical either way. Those commissions — along with display advertising — are what keep every guide, tracker, and tool here free.
Programs we participate in
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Her Own Compass also participates (or has applied to participate) in affiliate programs for travel insurance, tours, financial tools, and travel services — including programs run through networks such as ShareASale, Impact, and CJ. As programs are added, the recommendations they touch remain subject to the same standards below.
How we keep it honest
- Used first, recommended second: products appear here after surviving a real trip or a real month’s money plan — and reviews name what failed, not just what worked.
- Disclosure before links: the disclosure sits at the top of every article containing affiliate links, before the first link — not buried in a footer.
- No pay-to-play: commissions never decide a ranking or a verdict. Plenty of well-paying products aren’t recommended here.
