Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 11, 2026
Her Own Compass (“we”, “this site”) at herowncompass.com respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the site, we never sell your personal information for money, and you can reach us about your data anytime at hello@herowncompass.com.
Information we collect
- Information you give us: your email address when you subscribe to the newsletter or download the Travel-Fund Tracker, and your name, email, and message when you use the contact form.
- Information collected automatically: standard log and analytics data — pages visited, approximate location (country/region), device and browser type, and referral source — via cookies and similar technologies.
How we use it
- To send the newsletter and free resources you asked for (you can unsubscribe with one click, anytime).
- To reply to your messages.
- To understand which articles help readers, via analytics.
- To display advertising that funds the site’s free content.
Cookies
This site uses cookies for three purposes: essential operation (caching, security), analytics (Google Analytics 4 — anonymized usage statistics), and advertising and affiliate tracking (described below). On your first visit, a consent banner lets you accept or decline non-essential cookies; you can change your choice anytime via the cookie settings link in the footer.
Advertising
We work (or plan to work) with advertising partners — including Google AdSense and, in the future, Mediavine or similar ad management services — that use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, including personalized ads where you’ve consented. These partners may collect data such as your IP address, device identifiers, and pages viewed. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings and aboutads.info. When we join a specific ad network, its name and privacy policy link will be listed here.
Affiliate links
Some articles contain affiliate links. When you click one, the merchant (for example, Amazon) sets a cookie so a qualifying purchase can be credited to this site. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. Affiliate cookies identify the referral, not your identity to us — we never see what you buy. See the full Affiliate Disclosure.
Our newsletter runs on Beehiiv. Your email is stored there, used only for the newsletter and the free resources you requested, and never sold or rented. Every email includes an unsubscribe link that works immediately.
Your rights (GDPR & CCPA)
- Access, correction, deletion: email us and we’ll show you, fix, or delete the personal data we hold about you within 30 days.
- EU/EEA residents (GDPR): you may also object to processing, request portability, and lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
- California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know, delete, and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information as defined by the CCPA — see Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. We do not knowingly discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Data retention & security
Contact messages are kept up to 24 months; newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. The site runs over HTTPS, and access to subscriber data is limited to the site operator.
Children
This site is written for adults and not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children; if you believe a child has provided us data, email us and we’ll delete it.
Changes & contact
We’ll update this page when practices change and revise the date above. Questions: hello@herowncompass.com or the contact form.
